Bug Description

I just print the test page with the below driver :
--------------
HP Deskjet 920c, hpcups 3.11.7
--------------

However, I don't have any color.

I connected the printer through USB since my new computer under Kubuntu 11.10 has no parallel port.

Note that the same printer worked properly with the default install of Ubuntu 10.04 and the parallel connection.

Can you attach your PPD file /etc/cups/ppd/DESKJET-920C.ppd? Can you check the default option settings in your printer setup tool? Can you also check the option settings in the application you are using and also attach the file which you have printed? Repeat the print job following the instructions of the sections "CUPS error_log" and "Capturing print job data" on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems?

Hi Jérôme,

Sorry for the late response.
Can you please install the latest hplip-3.11.12. By downloading it from our site http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/gethplip.html and install it by running command "sh hplip-3.11.12.run" from the terminal.

Let us know if you are able to reproduce the issue.

I checked the PPD of this device and everything looks fine. Probably there might be some wrong with the settings of the colour options in the application that you are using to print.

If the issue is still reproducible, please provide us some debug information by following the steps given below.

1. Open the file /etc/cups/cupsd.conf in write permissions.
   $sudo gedit /etc/cups/cupsd.conf
Change LogLevel warn to LogLevel debug and below that line add hpLogLevel 15.

2. Restart the cups
    $sudo /etc/init.d/cups restart

3. Make the log files empty
   $sudo cat /dev/null > /var/log/syslog
   $sudo cat /dev/null > /var/log/cups/error_log

4. Send a print job or print a test page.

5. Copy the contents of syslog file.
    $sudo cat /var/log/syslog > debug.txt
    $sudo cat /var/log/cups/error_log > cups_log.txt

     Attach me the debug.txt & cups_log.txt files.

6. In /tmp folder you will find files with name starting with hpcups like, hpcupsfilterc_1.bmp, hpcupsfilterk_1. bmp, hpcups_jobX.out.

Please attach these files here and post us the output of "hp-check -t" command.
Sorry of the inconvenience caused

Thanks,
Goutam Kodu

In replay to comment #2 :
In my printer setup tool (KDE systemsettings program) :
- color model : RGB color
- color precision : normal
- print quality : standard

I tried to print the test page into the setup tool with the button "Imprimer la page de test" (in english "print the test page").

The printer test page from "hp-setup" tool or KDE "systemsettings" tool shows only black (leaving white where colours were supposed to appear).

Performed step 1.

For step 2:
"sudo service cups restart"

Didn't perform step 3.

Sent printer test page for step 4.

Hi Jerome,

Thanks for providing all the logs. The device HP Deskjet 920c has two print queues :

DESKJET-920C
------------
Type: Printer
Device URI: hp:/usb/DeskJet_920C?serial=HU18T6Q2BVBI
PPD: /etc/cups/ppd/DESKJET-920C.ppd
PPD Description: HP DeskJet 920C - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7
Printer status: printer DESKJET-920C is idle. enabled since mar. 03 janv. 2012 14:55:26 CET
Communication status: Good

DeskJet_920C
------------
Type: Printer
Device URI: hp:/usb/DeskJet_920C?serial=HU18T6Q2BVBI
PPD: /etc/cups/ppd/DeskJet_920C.ppd
PPD Description: HP Deskjet 920c, hpcups 3.11.12
Printer status: printer DeskJet_920C is idle. enabled since lun. 23 janv. 2012 17:01:42 CET
 Rendering completed
Communication status: Good

One queue configured with the PPD HP DeskJet 920C - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7 and another with HP Deskjet 920c, hpcups 3.11.12. I believe that when you are sending out the print job it is taking the color options from the HP DeskJet 920C - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7 PPD.

Can you delete all the existing print queues for this printer and configure the device again with only "hp-setup" command and check if the device is printing color.

Let us know on the same.

Regards,
Goutam

I unplugged the printer and removed all printers by using the KDE systemsettings program.
Next, I ran "sudo hp-setup". Finally I plugged the printer and clicked on "refresh", "next", "add printer".
However, the "KDE systemsettings program" currently shows 3 printer configurations instead of 2.

Jérôme, you have 3 print queues instead of 2 as one got automatically generated when plugging the printer. Please test now the queues which you have created with hp-setup.

On the HP PhotoSmart C8100 (I do not have the DeskJet 920c) your /tmp//hpcups_job51.out comes out in color.

Hi Jerome,

The bmp image generated by the driver is color and i flashed the .out file to another printer and it printed color. Looks like driver is giving out the correct output according to the settings made in the print dialogue box.

May be their could be some problem with your printer device. Can you check the ink-levels of your printer using command "hp-levels -g" and post us its output and check if the behavior of the printer is same on Windows OS too.

Hi Jerome,

The ink-levels are showing 0%. Is it the same in the "hp-toolbox" supplies tab.

Please make sure that the ink cartridges are not empty.

I just changed the color cartridge and the result is the same.

Could you restore the driver available with 10.04 LTS ?

The printer is now printing with colours. However, I don't understand what changed into my configuration.

Is it a bug of the integration between the hp driver and the KDE systemsettings.
