Bug Description

After mounting samba shares through gvfs-smbd, e.g. by typing smb://server/share in the nautilus file manager, I experience occasional freezes in nautilus lasting anywhere up to 20-30 seconds. During this time it's not possible to browse folders or open new nautilus instances. Likewise, file->open and file->save dialogs will be frozen as well. It appears that any file browsing operation is being held pending re-establishment of connection to the samba share. The freezes happen maybe once every hour or so.

I should also note that these delays only seem to happen with gvfs-smb. For example, gvfs-sftp connections are unaffected.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

I believe this bug also causes my laptop to permanently suspend sometimes. If I have gnucash open which is directly stored over my samba share, then put the laptop to sleep, sometimes I can never fully recover the laptop (Linux Mint 17.1 64bit cinnamon). It doesn't allow me to log back in, and I can't even use the "Magic SysRq" REISUB combination to reboot. Since switching to NFS I have not had these issues.

I have exactly same problem as described. After upgrading to 14.04 and mounting samba. Nautilus freeze and. So work with 14.04 is not possible so. I reinstaled 12.04. I tried before to change some settings in fstab.
I thought reason is in fstab so I I added to mountpoint:
,_netdev,iocharset=utf8,

//bla/bla /PISARNA cifs username=asa,_netdev,auto,user,uid=grh,gid=grh,iocharset=utf8, 0 0

but it is no effect . There is some delay or loop in smb conection itself. Interesting is, that if you have one window in nautilus
already opened delay is shorter.
