Bug Description

Binary package hint: gpsdrive

GPSDrive is too large for the screen on my 10.2 inch Asus EEE 1000HE.

The program loads fine but the screen is so large you can't click on the right buttons without making the program shift on the screen. Very wierd.

The whole program shifts and I can't press the buttons.

Running on newest Juanty

Workaround: Start gpsdrive with option M:

  gpsdrive -M pda

this works on my eee-pc 900

A second workaround that most likely gives the same result:
gpsdrive -o 700x400

Works nice with my screen resolution 1024x600 on Acer Aspire One with Ubuntu 10.04 netbook edition.

Have compiled from SVN and the bug if fixed there. From debug information I can see that gspdrive checks resolution and sets map area according to that it found.

Hi, I'm one of the upstream authors,

the -geometry command line setting is buggy, see the SourceForge bug about that.

the "-M pda" or "-M car" command line options are your best bet.

gpsdrive 2.11 and newer:
if you like the normal mode, the trick to getting it to fit on the screen is to go into the preferences and turn off some of the left-side buttons that you don't use. once the buttons are gone it will shrink. also you can use some keyboard shortcuts to toggle off the dashboard at the bottom and the left-hand sidebar. Also you can switch between icons, icons and text, text only to make the buttons smaller. In the development version (2.12svn) you get even more control over this.

(see http://download.osgeo.org/livedvd/data/gpsdrive/ for modern 2.11 for modern ubuntu)

regards,
Hamish
(happily using it on a 7" eeePC)
