gpaint renders png image without background with random errors

Bug Description
Opening the attached png image `original.png` in `gpaint` causes the painting area to be rendered with random content. See attached screenshots for details. The issue is reproducible after reboot and all the time and shows different/random effects (I took two example screenshots).
The original has been produced from `original.pdf` with `convert original.pdf original.png` of `imagemagick` 8:6.7.7.
