digikam cannot download pictures due to gvfsd-gphoto2 blocking the device

I have the same problem.

The less drastic workaround that I have is to wait for the popup, then choose "Unmount" instead of a software or an action and you will be able to use digikam after that for importing pictures.

The thing is, maybe "Unmount" should be in the action list. So you could say "always unmount" since using the "do nothing" action still interfere with digikam.

This damn problem still exists in Jaunty! Please fix this, that's a really big problem if you don't know the workaround...

This is known issue and there not much digikam can do about it.

The volume should not be mounted. Especially if "do nothing" is selected.

Digikam could offer better help/workaround in this case:
I have reported bug 571656, which is likely a duplicate of this one.

I'm getting the following error in digikam.

Digikam could detect this problem and offer to "pkill gvfsd-gphoto2" or whatever is required - as a workaround.

The real bug is the device getting (b)locked by gvfsd-gphoto2.

I agree with #1 and #7.
Maybe Digikam could:
-unmount the device for us so that digikam can use it?
-provide a more thorough message suggesting that the user unmount the device? Add to the error line: You may also need to make sure that the camera is not mounted and in use by another program.

Like #1 points out I've gotten in the habit of clicking unmount from the gnome popup, but I'm sure that this could cause problems for other users that don't know this workaround.

Have the same bug in 10.04 Ubuntu running DigiKam will try work around above.

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

7 years later and still broken. Worse actually as now crashes with a segfault when attempting to import.
