2009-06-18 03:22:16 bastafidli description This is an alternative or addition to, but not a duplicate of, bug #185586 . Due to bug #161106 , it is not possible to have two (or more) users both logged with Compiz (advanced desktop effects). Generally the first to log in gets Compiz and subsequent users do not. There is no warning, most users will find this counter-intuitive and confusing. Because Switch Users is most likely to be used by families sharing a computer, the users who encounter this bug will generally not be very experienced. They may report duplicate bugs or clog up support forums. Since bug #161106 is unlikely to be resolved any time soon - certainly not in time for Hardy - then, administrators (those on the sudo wheel) should have the ability to turn fast user switching completely off. For example, in System - Administration - Users and Groups - Users Settings, a new checkbox named "Disable Fast User Switching". The result of this box being checked would be: - Fast User Switcher applet removed for all users - No Switch Users button on the Quit... applet for all users - No Switch Users button on the screen lock (after screensaver) for all users The checkbox would be unchecked by default.
