Do you get that issue every time or only once? The journal log have quite some warnings but those are probably not the same issue than the bug

Hi - sorry to say it is seen each time you fire up gnome-software after login.

Do you get any error on stdout if you stop the current instance and start a new one manually instead?

nothing on stdout

I killed the gnome-software service and then launched gnome-software.

I then checked journalctl and enc. is the output I saw in the log.

I bet this is because GNOME Software is built with fwupd support, but the fwupd daemon is not installed.
Can you please check if the fwupd package is installed on your system?

Thanks Matthias for the feedback:

It is installed and there is a root process running.

dad@dad:~/Downloads/gnome-software$ sudo apt install fwupd

fwupd is already the newest version (0.9.7-2).
0 to upgrade, 0 to newly install, 0 to remove and 3 not to upgrade.
dad@dad:~/Downloads/gnome-software$ ps -ef | grep fw
root 2849 1 0 11:43 ? 00:00:00 /usr/lib/fwupd/fwupd

Okay, then this is a new issue... Meh.
Verbose output would definitely help:
`killall gnome-software ; gnome-software --verbose`

cheers - enc is the output after running with --verbose
