trying to start gnome-software on an yakkety daily image hits that that segfault

I tried booting and starting gnome-software from an ISO a few times and didn't get this problem.

Are there some more specific steps required?

no specific steps but e.u.c has reports only for i386 and armhf so it might be arch specific

Accepted gnome-software into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/3.20.1+git20160923.2.7374bdc-0ubuntu1~xenial1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Can someone please confirm this is fixed?

You just have to try to open gnome-software in an i386 live session before running 'apt-get update'. It was fixed for me, but would be good if someone else were to try.
