Bug Description
Impact
------
Recent version of gnome shell or extension has been emitting large numbers of identical, or quote similar, entries in the system journal, when the monitor is turned off or physically disconnected.
The error is: DING: (gjs:10210): Gdk-CRITICAL **: 09:58:45.854: gdk_monitor_
Test Case
---------
Verify the bug first. This test case assumes you are using a desktop computer with an external monitor since that's the simplest way to verify this issue.
1. Log into Ubuntu
2. Run journalctl -f in a terminal
3. Unplug your monitor
4. Wait 30 seconds.
5. Plug your monitor back in.
The terminal will show the journal errors
Install the update. Log out then log back in. Repeat the steps above.
The terminal should not show those journal errors.
What Could Go Wrong
-------------------
The Desktop Icons NG GNOME Shell extension is enabled by default on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS so a bug here could make desktops unusable.
