Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions:

 * Is this reproducible?
 * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
 * Does it switch off if you press the power button and select switch off in the dialog displayed?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

yes, almost every session. The only way to get things working okay, is
to use the applet to swich off the PC right after a reboot. In this
cas it works fine. But, after after a while I work with my PC, the
applet stop working. I guess that other application I use would
prevent the applet to switch off the machine.

Hard to say. How could I understand what process of application would
not switch off when applet wanna do it? This may lead us on the right
track....

NO, as above...

ok so it seems that's rather a gnome-session or lower in the stack issue. do you have other users logged in when you get the issue? could you add your .xsession-errors to the bug after getting the bug?

I would believe the same. I've always problem with gnome session
(windows of the open applications are never at the right desktop when
I restart)

do you have other users logged in when you get the issue?

No, I'm the only user. Pse consider this is a domestic network, with a
pair of PC and on NAS.

could

here you have it as attachement. Pse let me know if I can do anything
more to help!! I'm not an expert, but I have a bit of knowledge and
willing to help...

hello, in the last days I did some test to help you in helping me..

I installed KDE.
At the end of the session, the machine get fully stuck!
I see a pop-up that tells that the logout has benn stopped by
/usr/bin/soffice/quickstart (or something similar)
After that.. the machine i "lost". The only way to swicht it off, is the
HW pushbutton.!

Well.. afer taht I removed the AWN, completely.
Back to Gnome..
The same issue!

What I notice is that the "shutdown" start, few windows went close
(skype for instance), then.. it seems it stop to continue to shutdown...
At that point I can only use a command from the terminal like halt,
shutdown, reboot... but I loose all the session configurations...

Pse consider I have 2 more PC with Ubuntu and gnome: both are FINE!!

1 is a eeePC with 10.10 Remix
1 is a laptop, Asus, with 10.10, gnome, AWN (perfect!) but. it's a
32bit, not a 64 lie the main machine with all that troubles.

How can we go further?
I look forward for your comments and help!

Many thanks!

Pierluigi

Ok, I'm a bit out of ideas on how to debug that now but letting it as new so other triagers can maybe pick it, one other way would be to start gnome-session --debug from a non GNOME session and see what is written when trying to restart

Changed in gnome-session (Ubuntu):
status: Incomplete → New
