For what it's worth, I'm seeing the same behavior as the original post. MacOS 13.5.1. RDP-ing via MS Remote Desktop App (stable or beta versions) in to Ubuntu Mantic presents the same as mentioned. Same TCP response. Not clear if it's Ubuntu RDP or something else happening along the chain.

I figured it out. For some reason, gnome-remote-desktop listens on port 3390 instead of 3389. Connecting to port 3390 works after adding required firewall rule using ufw. Is there a way to revert back to the original port?

Confirming that the pivot to the alternate port, 3390 worked for me too. Not sure when, or how out of the box MS RDP app for MacOS suddenly stopped working. Looks like the port shift on Ubuntu was quite a while ago. Thanks for the diligence and the tip. Guessing this ticket can be closed now?
