Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

After install Ubuntu and boot into Ubuntu, the brightness of my laptop monitor is 100%.

I press the 'lower brightness' button on my Netbook to reduce the brightness. But, after reboot, it will be back to 100%.

The temporary workaround on this issue is to set the brightness by using gnome-power-manager. Even I lower my brightness by pressing the button on my netbook, the brightness does reduce but when I run gnome-power-manager, the brightness setting in gnome-power-manager is 100%. I then reduce set the brightness setting in gnome-power manager to lower value. After I reboot, my netbook brightness did follow the gnome-power-manager.

Please fix this bug. When I press the 'lower brightness' button on my Netbook / Laptop, the gnome-power-manager's configuration should be automatically updated, so that Ubuntu will boot with new brightness setting.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. A new version of GNOME Power Manager is available on Maverick and we are wondering if this bug is still an issue for you with that version? Could you please test and comment back? Thanks in advance.

This bug still exist in Maverick.

And, beside GNOME Power Manager, I think there are some other packages related to this bug. Please see my explanation below:

When I press "lower brightness" / "higher brighness" buttons on my laptop, Ubuntu will display the brightness status. This also mean that Ubuntu is able to detect that I am pressing the "lower brightness" / "higher brighness" buttons. So, I suspect that there are components in Ubuntu be able to detect that I am pressing those buttons, but those components never update the GNOME Power Manager setting.

Do anybody know which Ubuntu components / packages that will detect the pressing of hot keys?

Continue from my comment #3.

Ubuntu is able to detect that the brightness has been reduced, but the GNOME Power Manager's configuration was not updated. That caused the brightness to be reset to 100% which is the brightness setting in GNOME Power Manager.

Again, the bug still exist in Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick.
