Samsung nc10 Brightness doesn't return to previous level

Bug Description

I've just installed 9.4 beta on my samsung NC10 and the brightness keys work
but when i leave the machine for a moment it dim's as it should
but about 60% of the time when i press a key to return work
the brightness doesn't return to the previous level
requiring me to raise the level manually some times from 0
reqiuring to press brightness 15+ times

while this isn't a serious bug it is rather annoying
and to a new user could cause isssues thinking their pc had turned off when the screen is just dark

I got it solved by disabling the "auto" brightness feature in the BIOS (F2 at start-up).

I also have this issue with my NC10. I'm running UNR 9.04 Final.

It only occurs when I am running on the battery, never when on AC. No matter what settings I have for screensaver, idle dimming, or power management, the screen dims when idle and does not restore brightness when I move the mouse or use the keyboard. The odd thing is that I have "Dim Display When Idle" UNCHECKED for both AC power and battery power, and it still dims after about 15 minutes of idle time.

I have the latest BIOS (07CA) and the brightness control in the BIOS set to manual (or "user controlled" or whatever the opposite of auto is). This issue also occured when I was using BIOS 04CA.

The dimming is annoying because it occurs when I am running full screen applications like ZSNES, and because the brightness keys operate very slowly (I should probably file that as a separate bug).

Also, I've noticed that if the bugged dimming occurs, when I plug in the AC power the brightness does not increase, as it does if the dimming hasn't occured.

In BIOS version 02CA switching Brightness Mode Control from 'Auto' to 'User Control' seems to fix the problem. With either DC and AC power the display returns to full brightness when display is awakened from sleep mode and also after opening the lid after lid was closed and computer was 'Suspended'. Before switching Brightness Mode Control to 'User Control' I was unable to get the display back to full brightness in either situation.

There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Hi David,

I'm still seeing this on Ubuntu 10.04 (upgraded from 9.10). Even with auto-dimming turned off then when on battery power the backlight drops to minimum and does not go back to the previous level when I resume use of the laptop.
