the clock format option has no effect in GNOME 2.22

I am wondering if you can reproduce this too, because that machines were installed using the final version disc of Hardy (using spanish language), however at home, I'm running alpha4 (english lang) and that option seems to work fine.

the issue might depend of the locale definitions, are you use the same locales on those installations?

It seems to happen with the spanish versions only. Too bad, because
it's been there since the alpha & beta releases and finally, made it into
the final version.

This bug is easy to fix.

- First edit your Locales File: sudo nano /usr/share/i18n/locales/es_XX
 XX is for your counrty code (VE, AR, ES, etc...)

Find the flollowing lines:

am_pm "";""
t_fmt_ampm ""

- And replace them with this one:

am_pm "<U0041><U004D>";"<U0050><U004D>"
t_fmt_ampm "<U0025><U0049><U003A><U0025><U004D><U003A><U0025><U0053>/
<U0020><U0025><U0070>"

- Save changes.

- Then type the following command to complete changes: sudo locale-gen

- And restart your system, when you login again 12 hrs format will be working.

Thank you so much, the solution posted really fixed the problem.

But, you know, this bug is some kind of "heritage" from Gutsy
because before you couldn't choice 12 or 24 format directly
but doing something like you did here. I'm talking about the
Spanish (Latin) languages.

Only certain languages had the 12 or 24 format available.
It's great to have this fixed because choosing the date's
format is more a personal taste than a Region setting.
The only thing left is that developers fix this all the way down
in ALL the languages; from what you showed me here,
looks like a piece of cake to do ;-) ;-)

If this is a problem on the locales, as IganKuhz showed, should this bug affect langpack-locales package too?

What is gonna happen in Jaunty... There is not option to change format in Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jacklope..

Since this affect the Spanish version of Ubuntu, I found a fix that works. The information is in Spanish, but the solution is just copy and paste. This is the URL: http://meridaspot.blogspot.com/2007/04/arreglar-el-formato-de-reloj-12-horas.html

This fix should be integrated in the next Ubuntu release.

Well, guess what: The 12 hour format was removed AGAIN from Ubuntu 10.04 RC. Just can't believe it happen again ! A bug was filled because of this and several years latter they put it back in 10.04 alphas but now is gone once more, at only days from final release. I would like to know what's going on. Why is so hard to keep the 12 hours format in Latin (spanish) languages ???.

I wish somebody could do something about this so as to get a quality release. I want to continue feeling proud of promoting Ubuntu, but problems as basic as this one often cause headaches to the novice who only wants things to work.

This bug has been around longer than I can remember. I really hope it gets fixed on Natty... FYI I live in Mexico and we sure use a.m./p.m. over 24 hour format. A quick look to the Mexican Government can confirm this: http://www.gob.mx
