Bug Description

Edit: The OP means right-click - doing s/left click/right click/
---

There is the need of a coherent behaviour on right click on menu items.

A popup menu that offers at leats to put the item on the pannel is good but
there is a lot of menu item that do not have this behaviour:
the launch application in the Applications menu, all items in the Places menu
and some items in the Desktop menu.

You can add specific option for some items, especially in the Places menu :
remove for favorite directories
unmount/eject for devices
disconnect for servers

Remark, I think the right click must either open a popup menu or do nothing.

Close this bug off. There's no actions menu in 2.10 onward, right?

There are no shares on my desktop or the network place nautilus window, so I can NOT unmount them. The two entries are still occupying space on my Places menu on the gnome-panel and I can't remove them.

That's weird, are those network connection from nautilus or bookmark you added? If they are bookmark you can probably remove then from the software where you added those which is likely nautilus

I added no bookmarks. I just connected to these shares a few months ago. And they got AUTOMATICALLY to the Places menu, and there is absolutely no way to remove them from there. They appear nowhere else in Gnome. I can upload a pic if you like.

I have seen these shares popping up in the "open" file GTK dialog, on the sidebar. But its right click "remove" option is grey'ed out. So far, I have found no way to remove these shares from my Places menu and/or Gnome's VFS.

Right, the description of those matches the one of nautilus network connection, they are listed under the network location for other users though, not sure why that's the case on your configuration. Does activating /apps/nautilus/desktop/volumes_visible in gconf-editor makes those be displayed there?

Yeah, I found it now. It's on the nautilus sidebar, which I always have turned off. I think that it's kinda weird to have an SMB share mounted for months, and only be removed from a particular spot, but not from the Places menu and FileOpenDialog where it also appears.

I never used nautilus. I installed it to see if it would deal with my ftp places in the Places menu and, since I hadn't used it before, nothing came up (even trying to import an unknown name from an unknown folder...). I was back to square one. It took hours but I found the non-nautilus solution.

Places -> Network -> Bookmarks -> Edit Bookmarks -> (select the appropriate one) -> Remove

worked great. And yes, a right-click menu would be better than that.
