here are the beginnings of better behavior for this input method.
Please let me know what else I can do. I'm not sure my changes will run correctly. I couldn't see how to get it working strictly from the command line in the short amount of time i was working on it.
Let me know if similar changes are desired other places in this project, i'd be willing to work on it.
