Bug Description
Binary package hint: gnome-games
With the update of various games in gnome-games to use Clutter, they are much more visually appealing, animated and exciting feeling. When sounds are enabled, they seem to synchronize better with what is happening and add life to the scene. (This is different from previously, where sounds had less of an impact due to the complete lack of interesting animation to complement them). Some games seem to have improved sounds, to boot!
Given this change, I think it would be natural to enable sounds by default in all these games, at least downstream. (Maybe for Lucid? That would be exciting; the new games selection will be getting some attention this release, after all).
At the moment, sounds tend to be disabled by default. This is a shame because it is very unlikely they will even be discovered. In Quadrapassel, for example, sounds are toggled from the Preferences menu, but this option is unavailable while a game is ongoing. (And nobody wants to quit a good game of, err, falling block sorting). Similar scenario in most others.
There is a perfectly good volume control with a Mute option for the case where a user does not wish to be heard. Sound should be opt-out in that fashion, as it is for any other entertainment software we ship.
