Bug Description

There isn't a "No sounds" theme to choose as alert sound in the sound preferences. There used to be one, and it is necessary to get rid of system sounds.

A workaround would be to set the "Alert volume" to zero, but that causes all application sounds (e.g. Skype incoming calls) to be muted, which is not what I want.

Another workaround would be to set event-sounds setting with dconf-editor (org->gnome->desktop->sound->event-sounds). When I do this, the theme selection dialog is grayed out, but sounds keep playing. I was think about filing this as a separate bug, but I am not sure which package to file it to.

If I am missing something and there is a way to get rid of system sounds without getting rid of specific application sounds, please let me know.

The login sound, which many users considers to be the most intrusive system sound, can be disabled from "Startup Applications...".

Thanks for the tip, that's already disabled :)

Also noticed this problem. No sound theme change options anywhere. Has to be done manually through Dcon.
Other than that Ubuntu is perfect ;-)
