Screen dialog won't remember brightness setting

Yes, I think it is hardware specific. I think it mostly applies to laptops. I personally have an iMac, and its brightness can only be adjusted by software.

I attach the screenshot of the Screen Settings dialog. The Brightness slider is focused.

could you send the bug to bugzilla.gnome.org? it would be better if somebody having the issue would send it to the code writer

Me too facing this problem, it does not remember screen brightness setting and Bluetooth setting.

Usually I dim screen brightness to very low and turn off Bluetooth always. I am using same machine since ubuntu 10.04 and now only in 11.10 this problem appeared.

I have the same problem as mjunaidpv.

Any one have a fix for this. Me and most of friends are affected by this bug. It pains in my eyes because every time I reboot Ubuntu the brightness is set to 100%. Please any provide patch or a fix, please!

@Ravi: I set brightness to the minimum automatically by adding the following command to the Startup Applications:

pkexec /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-backlight-helper --set-brightness 1

Works just fine. But it still would be nice to have the bug fixed.

Same problem with Ubuntu 12.04 x64.

I don't think it's a wishlist or low priority bug, since it directly affects all users. Most of us are patient, but this bug won't help solving bug#1 (aka Microsoft market share)

Not sure if it will help anyone else, but for me this is fixed after I edit my /etc/default/grub file so that the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line looks like the following (and also running update-grub plus rebooting afterward):

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor"

My laptop now keeps its brightness settings properly.

I verify this problem. (12.04 x64 here installed on toshiba l655 laptop).

It critically affects battery life, so its importance is not jut "low". Battery life is lower when using ubuntu compared to windows 7, so I think that it should be fixed as soon as possible.

I also have this problem, someone should fix it.

this bug is all over the internet... this affects a lot of ubuntu users.. ubuntu is making such a great progress.. but a bug as simple as the screen brightness is not fixable? my m/c Asus N56VJ.

and the one that gave the solution to change that grub line.. firstly it doesnt effect any change at all.. and in that state i cant suspend. i have been in such a pain that one solution creates another problem and i am always searching all over the internet to fix these silly bugs instead of using my new machine for doing some fruitful work!

Kindly Please canonical, take note of this bug and please fix this.

shows RESOLVED with a patch in 'systemd'.

I'm experiencing this bug using Ubuntu 12.04.4 and kernel 3.14 rc6, but that's not happen with kernel 3.2 (original Precise kernel).

This used to be fixed in 15.04 but apparently broken again in 15.10.
