Custom keyboard shortcuts require clicking the right side of the row

More over you can't set the keyboard preferences anymore (for example CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE to kill the server X).

A workaraund for the terminal is to set it as a compiz extra shortcut.

I had this problem but I think I have just found the cause. The comment at the bottom of the window says "To edit a shortcut, click the row and hold down the new keys ..". In fact you have to click the right hand end of the row where it shows the existing shortcut or Disabled. The text there then changes to New Shortcut and the keys can be pressed.

I agree with Colin Law that this is just bad UI design, the text says to click the row you want to change - but actually you need to click the actual shortcut.

Clicking the name column of the row does not do anything so just make it do the same as clicking the shortcut column.

Clicking the row works for me fine with gnome-control-center 3.3.92 on Ubuntu 12.04 Beta. There's no need to click the actual shortcut section of the row any more.

Not for me with Custom Shortcuts it isn't. Using gnome-control-center 1:3.3.92-0ubuntu4 on Precise:
System Settings > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Custom Shortcuts
Click + and enter name and command, Apply.
The prompt at the bottom says to click a row and press keys. Clicking a row pops up the command dialog again. To enter shortcut it is necessary to click at the right hand end of the highlight.

For some reason Launchpad won't let me change the status back to Confirmed.

Jeremy, this bug was filed against 11.10, not 12.04. Is the bug still apparent in 11.10?

Colin, I disagree. The behavior is a lot better than in Oneiric.

You do have to be able to edit the shortcut name and the command though so I don't think Custom Shortcuts is broken. Although I'd personally mark this as Won't Fix, I'll go ahead and reopen this since the original report was about Custom Shortcuts, not the rest of the Shortcuts dialog which works fine now.

@Jeremy, yes it is much improved, I did not mean to indicate otherwise. The original bug as described is still there however. It is confusing to see a dialog showing the Custom Shortcuts which says "To edit a shortcut, click the row and ..." when in fact this does not work.
Perhaps it would be better for Custom Shortcuts if the keys were entered as part of the dialog that sets up the Name and Command. A third field there for the keys might be ideal.

Popey, yes the bug still exists in 11.10 but I don't believe the general fix will get backported there.

Yes, some bugs are caused by problems in Ubuntu's packaging or patches. This though is a GNOME bug and affects all GNOME users. That's why this bug should be reported to GNOME so that it can be fixed for everyone.
