bluetooth-applet fails to connect to DUN randomly

Bug Description

If I add my phone by selecting "Add new device" in bluetooth-applet, it does not connect to DUN with "Connection refused (111)" error in the bluetoothd log and with "Connection refused - security block" in hcidump output.
I succeded connecting only after killing bluetooth-applet (!) and setting up DUN in gnome-control-center bluetooth settings (which was inactive despite setting it up in bluetooth-applet dialog).
And now there are two "Life Standard" connections in nm-applet, only one of which is working. Will try to find the difference between them.

The only difference between them is the UUID:

# diff /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/Life\ Standard*
4c4
< uuid=e4044e83-b679-4d4b-b2ef-057b9b3ee34d
---
> uuid=b76dbffd-fec9-46a0-8426-4bdb729d88a7

Successfully connects the second one.

No, it's not about uuid or bluetooth-applet, it just fails to connect randomly.

Changed in gnome-bluetooth (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid

Why do you changed status to invalid. I experience the same problem after installing (not upgrading) 11.10.
In 11.04 with the same hardware DUN Dialup over bluetooth worked like a charm.

In addition to this bug with the NM: I also see two connections with the same name.
But in the "Edit connection" dialog there is only one. After deleting it, the same two connections
in the drop-down menu stays.

Try to connect multiple times. I think the problem was with the mobile operator refusing to connect. I've just written a script with nm-cli that tries to connect until success and it worked. BTW, I was in a rural area while experiencing this, are you too?

Thank you for quick reply!

I'm in the middle of a big city. In this room with Ubuntu 11.04 and the same hardware I never needed second try for the connection. Indeed, if I try to connect with Ubuntu 11.10 about 10 times, I get the connection.

I would say, this is definitely a bug. Not a major one, but essential for the user experience. So I vote to reopen with bug in order to draw attention to this problem.

By the way, could you post your script here?

Thank you!

Changing to Confirmed as it affects multiple people and works normal with previous versions.

Here is the script, but I didn't even store UUID as variable, it was just a hack.

What is your other device with bluetooth, BTW?
Mine is Nokia N900.

And I just noticed I have problem with obexfs too.
Possibly related to bug #839157

This Bug #839157 is about 11.04, right? I had no problems with bluetooth on 11.04 at all.
But I have a lot of problems with bluetooth on 11.10. I didn't tried obexfs yet, but normal file transfer (using gnome-bluetooth-manager) is very unstable. It breaks bluetooth on Ubuntu and it breaks also the Nokia N900. :-(

@Boris: Yes, my bug 839157 affects 11.04 and 11.10, whereas in 10.04 and 10.10 bluetooth file transfer worked very nice (70kB/s both ways). My bug is about gnome-bluetooth-applet that NEVER works since 11.04 with my Nokia N81, and instead shows some DBusError about permission failures.

I also tried obexfs - no success.
