Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

The icon for an encrypted luks partition in disk mounter appears to change slightly between it being unmounted and it being unlocked/mounted. However I really can't tell the difference (if it is changing) - given it's not a very big icon the change needs to be made large enough and obvious enough so that you can tell.

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu 9.10 install, that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be addressed as part of this project.

-Encrypted partitions are used by advanced users and this is not an issue faced by an average user. Therefore not a papercut.
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as "Invalid" only in the papercuts project.

I spent some time tracking this down a bit more.

It appears that the padlock in question is generated as an emblem by gnome-disk-utility and it's
the gdu_encrypted_lock.svg and gdu_encrypted_unlock.svg that I can't tell the difference between at that size.

The problem stems from the fact that:
   1) When used as an emblem the padlock is pretty small (the shackle is probably no more than 4 pixels high for me).
   2) The shackle is a white/grey and as an emblem it is sitting on what is typically a white/grey disk.

On todays Karmic update the padlock seems to have disappeared completely both when locked and when unlocked; I'm not sure what's responsible for that.

I guess this is unrelated to the original problem - but I'm not sure if this state is permenant or not.

I think we might be able to close this. In Lucid the behavior is a little different; now it doesn't show any
padlock when unmounted, and adds the padlock when unlocked - that seems to work well.
