Bug Description

Ubuntu 18.04.3 up to date to latest @ 11/8/2019 with kernel: 5.0.0-23-generic #24~18.04.1-Ubuntu

Gdm3 asks randomly for the user password at login, when automatic login is enabled

I did not use seahorse yet, just system settings/details/users to enable auto login

when filing the bug, it asked me to attach /etc/gdm3/custom.conf as it was modified
but i never edited it myself.

I cannot reproduce this, this happens at random on cold boots.

Have the same issue, even reboot didn't help me (but it was working some time ago). I get this in auth log:

Sep 18 18:29:04 autotest-NUC8i7BEH gdm-autologin]: pam_unix(gdm-autologin:session): session closed for user autotest
....

But user "autotest" has set password, I'm able to login to him over SSH

Any idea/workaround?

Used SW:
* Ubuntu 19.04, GDM 3.32.0, kernel 5.0.0-27-generic
