Bug Description

I've recently starting testing the "flashback (no effects)" session in Saucy and and I find that it works flawlessly in Edubuntu and Ubuntu but it's totally unusable in Ubuntu GNOME. I'll post some screenshots soon, but basically the menus and windows do not respond properly at all.

That said I'm fine if Ubuntu GNOME wants to say "won't fix" because it's OK to say "that's not something we want to focus on"! I just don't want to start any FUD :^)

Thought I should provide a bit of follow up info here. The hardware in use is:

Intel Atom CPU 230 @ 1.60GHz
Intel 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
Intel N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)
Realtek RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller (rev 02)
2GB DDR2 RAM

That hardware currently runs standard Ubuntu/Unity reasonably well, and in Ubuntu GNOME both the default DE and the new classic also run well.

The flashback (no effects) session runs well in Edubuntu or Ubuntu, just not Ubuntu GNOME.

I had tested this in both the amd64 and i386 versions of Ubuntu GNOME Saucy, but I happened to think that both operating systems were upgrades from Raring so I retested on a fresh install of Ubuntu GNOME Saucy i386 with the same results.

Just playing this AM and I found that switching from gdm to lightdm with lightdm-gtk-greeter allows me to boot to a usable flashback (no effects) session so I added the gdm tag.

Just wanted to pipe up and mention a similar problem is occurring with Lubuntu Trusty, even though it uses LightDM. Note the empty black panels on the desktop in the att screenshot.

This appears to be fixed in gdm version (3.10.0.1-0ubuntu3) trusty but I'll follow up more during the Trusty Beta testing cycle as I'll need to test Saucy -> Trusty upgrades at that time.
