what is your use case to cross build gcj applications? The current use case is to provide a gcj cross compiler which is able to cross-build gcc-4.9. This works, and using gcj natively on ppc64el works as well.

I'm just trying to run gcj to compile some Java code. It doesn't work at all.

As Matthias has noted, this package exists to provide a minimally functional cross-compiler for bootstrapping. It is not supported by Canonical as a general-purpose cross-compiler for Java.

Unassigning from the taco-screen-team, but leaving this bug open as a valid wishlist bug.

Given the response from Canonical that it is not generally supported for cross-compiling java, returning bug.
