Bug Description

U+201F DOUBLE HIGH-REVERSED-9 QUOTATION MARK ‟ is not present in the Ubuntu font.

This means it usually falls back to another font, making it appear in a different style from the other quote characters. “”„

We can't reproduce this bug in the latest version. I am going to mark this bug as Fix Released but will be happy to revisit with an appropriate screenshot.

Is this issue really fixed as of 2010-09-01, about one month ago?
To me, the quotation marks still don't seem to harmonize in shape. That would explain the different hinting for small font sizes, which was the original complaint.

In the screen-shot the symbols
“ ” „ ‟
are displayed. That is:
(U+201C) (U+201D) (U+201E) (U+201F)
I hope that I didn't confuse the order.

However, I don't know any language where the last one is really used. But I don't know many languages at all, so don't rely on me in that question. It's part of Unicode, so it should look consistent!

Clearly there's still an issue or U+201F being quite unlike the others (see following PDF).

A very strange problem - the U+201F is from a completely different font!

D'oh. U+201F is just missing from UFF at the moment.

In such cases it helps to disable font fallback to see missing glyph, in GTK/Pango applications this can be done by setting the text "fallback" attribute to false, e.g. using pango-view utility:

    pango-view --markup --text='<span fallback="false">“ ” „ ‟</span>' --font="Ubuntu"

Could you also reconsider the hinting for all of the quotation marks, when you add this symbol, as already mentioned in #654894.

There is no U+201F in the Ubuntu font - you're seeing a fallback font.

U+201F is a non-standard stylistic variant of U+201C, and isn't a
standard quote character in any language.

Marking as Low based on the statement that no language actually uses this character.
