Bug Description
These two characters are not present in Ubuntu Mono.
Because of bug 932958, they are substituted from a different font. In a terminal this causes characters to overlap.
summary: |
- 'DOTTED CIRCLE' and 'BLACK CIRCLE' look ugly in Ubuntu font, kind of - overlapped + 'DOTTED CIRCLE' and 'BLACK CIRCLE' are not present in Ubuntu Mono so are + substituted from a wider font |

Currently, the font lacks these symbols, and what you're actually seeing are those of DejaVu Sans Mono, which is bigger than Ubuntu Mono.
