Bug Description

Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree

Don't list a bug on 9.10, just older versions. If this is a i386 v x64 issue, then please remove the software from the update list till you get things resolved. Otherwise, both your time is wasted processing frivolous bugs and my time is wasted having to acknowledge and respond to error message and crash alerts that will not be fixed any time soon. We can both benefit from some prudent filtering here.

After the latest update configuration process never finished and crashed while configuring new flash player. Now when I try to update it using manager or try to uninstall flash player it doesn't let me do this with the error message: E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report. When I try to run it manually using terminal it hangs for hours and doesn't configure it.

Can't even run Update Manager or Synaptic Package Manager. They throw me out with the above mentioned error message. Now how can I even upgrade or update if new release is available. It also hangs in terminal while downloading the updates during the upgrade process.

NICE ANSWER!

I hope sometime before 2012 this bug is fixed OR CANONICAL REMOVES EVERY SINGLE REFERENCE IN UBUNTU TO THIS DAMN FLASH stuff. Bloody proprietary software!
Please, Canonical and Ubuntu Community, remove ALL this stuff! We got dozens of programers working in GNU, why depend on Adobe and other like it!???

Sorry guys, but nothing seems to work.
I've upgraded from one Ubuntu LTS to the other (8.04 to 10.04) and flash plug-in is not working. Cannot open youtube and other videos/animations.
Not even the purge command solved the problem (I was trying to remove it all and re-install it in the terminal, or with Synaptic, or anything else.. nope!). I can't install, uninstall, re-install flash. Take a look:

 flashplugin-installer
 flashplugin-nonfree
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

In my opinion, for Ubuntu, Debian and all the GNU/Linux comunity, the solution is only one: independence! = to build a 100% open-source package that makes everything that this proprietary one does; make one that works for real (gnash sometimes in not enough) and forget about Adobe Flash.
Cheers!
