Bug Description

Flash videos play at several times (3-4x, probably) normal speed. After booting up the computer, flash videos play normally in the browser. After about 30 minutes, they begin playing faster than normal. Restarting the browser has no effect. Once the problem begins, it occurs in both Chrome and Firefox, until the computer is restarted.

I have observed this problem both in kernel version 3.4.0 and in 3.4.4. I have the xorg-edgers updates installed (due to other problems for my computer if I use the older xorg repositories).

There sounds like a bug from a LONG time ago, which was caused by too many alsa clients or something like that, you could fix it by hard reseting alsa.

A couple of things:

1. This bug also affects flash videos played in Totem, not only videos played in Firefox or Chrome.

2. Several other people are affected. It appears as if this bug appeared relatively recently. Here is a forum thread about the bug: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1996584

Sound also becomes delayed/distorted on wine around the same time that it does flash. Unsure if related, but I assume they are.

An easy workaround I've been using is to switch to an alternate output device (and then back again) in Settings > Sound.

The same problem here. Playing faster in Chrome 20, and skipping in Totem player

I installed 12.04 64Bit on an Acer 5755 series laptop (this model does NOT contain an nvida card). The system was working fine, until a recent update has now since rendered watching flash impossible. Due to the increased speed at which the videos are playing.

Rather ironically this happened just moments before I was due to show my friend what a formidable option as an OS Ubuntu is, especially LTS. Needless to say, many of my friends and family are going to need quite a bit more convincing thanks to issues such as this.

I'm having this problem right now... Probably after a upgrade. But Totem here is working fine!

Oh, and if a deactive one plugin in the shockwave list, the video play in normal velocity but lagging... So it's relative to a plugin. When the newer is actived the video is super fast, when a older version is actived the video lags. Very unfortunate bug indeed.

I am using my brand new System76 12.04 LTS laptop. This issue has plagued me since day one. It is very irritating. The only temporary fix I found is rebooting the machine. Any updates on this issue?

I got the same issue. Switching sound output in settings works.
Is this a pulseaudio issue then? or flash? will it be fixed? I do not understand the fix committed?
