Thinkpad W500 doesn't resume after suspend with fglrx+Compiz

Bug Description
Suspend appears to work, but resume yields a black screen, sometimes with a few corrupted pixels near the top. The hard drive indicator light is on almost constantly. The machine remains in this state indefinitely (~15 minutes tested) until forcibly shut down.
Switchable graphics are not in use; the FireGL is manually selected in the BIOS.
I note that the release notes for this version of fglrx on ATI's website claim to have fixed suspend/resume issues.
Relevant versions:
Ubuntu: 10.04
fglrxr: 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu3
compiz: 1:0.8.4-0ubuntu15
linux-image: 2.6.32.21.22
xorg: 1:7.5+5ubuntu1
This appears similar to bug 303083 and a couple other less complete bug reports, but is different in that it is current with a fully updated 10.04 and only present when Compiz is in use.
