Bug Description
The faac distributed in Ubuntu Saucy is missing its mp4-specific options, such as -w and --artist.
Investigation reveals that upstream debian patches made faac depend on an external libmp4v2 library for these options, but failed to add the appropriate Build-Depends: line to the control file. The result is a binary with no mp4v2 support at all, which reduces functionality and breaks other software (like gtkpod).
The solution is to add Build-Depends: libmp4v2-dev to the control file.
