f-spot crashes on start or just after

Bug Description

starting f-spot from [alt]-[f2] it raises the window with some of the contained fields to crash after around 3-4 seconds. starting f-spot from a terminal it starts sometimes successfully, to then crash after around a minute, or it crashes directly with:

the exception when crashing after a while seems to usually be:
