Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Getting a similar issue. It starts and runs fine until I press a key while the window is open. It fails to start with the system, however.

I am getting the exact same issue, however running it as root works (except it's obviously not what I want, because I'd lose all my config from $HOME on every app I'd launch with synapse):

Yes, I can confirm that with "sudo synapse" is working, but indeed is not what we want.

Having same issue on Ubuntu 14.10. Attached the crash report.

Look at the output:

 and
[INFO 00:09:58.726637] [controller:59] Using gtk-im-context-simple input method.

so: I just tried and it works here (so far) with setting GTK_IM_MODULE to an empty string
so just run:
$ GTK_IM_MODULE='' synapse

Indeed, setting that particular envvar solves the problem for me as well. Thank God you found a temporary workaround.

GTK_IM_MODULE='' synapse

worked for me too. Now if I can just figure out how to get that set before synapse cranks itself up at login.

I've just started experiencing this issue in the last day or two. I have no clue what I did to break a previously working Synapse. I'm crushed by its loss. :(
