Bug Description
Binary package hint: evolution
Yesterday I sent an email to my boss. Today I noticed it has been unusually long since I had gotten an email, and clicked "Send / Receive" and was greeted with the all too familiar message about losing connection with the exchange backend. Apparently yesterday, with no error. The email to my boss didn't get sent.
Evolution's exchange support is broken enough that it needs a warning dialogue when a user attempts to add an account using the exchange protocol. Probably recommending the use of IMAP + SMTP instead.
I recommend putting this warning in the dialogue at the point where the user selects Server Type = Microsoft Exchange:
Edit / Preferences / Add / Forward / Forward / Server Type = Microsoft Exchange
I think it's important to do more than just add text to the existing Description. Something like a pop up window saying "Warning: Microsoft Exchange support is broken and not recommended. You may want to try IMAP + SMTP instead." with confirm / cancel buttons.
