Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

Empathy does not import any Pidgin accounts on my machine. Every time Empathy starts, it offers to import from Pidgin, it lists my accounts, and I select to import all. However, none are imported. I end up with a blank Empathy window.

This could be related to bug #388906 since I have IRC accounts in my Pidgin config.

If I deselect my IRC accounts from the import window, it imports all the others. This must mean that bug #388906 is stopping the import of other protocols.

Thank you for your bug report.

Just to confirm that this is a duplicate of that ticket, can you see if the installation of telepathy-idle resolves your issues?

This is not technically a duplicate. Bug #388906 is about not importing IRC accounts. This bug goes further in demonstrating that any IRC accounts stops the import of accounts in other protocols.

Telepathy-idle is already installed. So, unfortunately that doesn't fix it in this case.

Fixing Bug #388906 would most likely fix this bug, however I cannot say for sure. Then there is the question of what happens if another protocol has an error, would that error stop the import of other protocols, too? I believe there is an additional bug that lies in the way it processes the import of accounts in different protocols to protect empathy from errors like this.

The upstream bug filed with gnome is directly related to IRC accounts, it seems. Other users seemed to have different issues as well related to IRC importing. I think it makes sense to roll this into the other ticket until we can prove it to be separate issues.

Thank you for your bug report. The issue is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug the to the people writting the software (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME)
