Bug Description

Binary package hint: efax-gtk

Hi!

I am having a problem with sending faxes that I didn't have on earlier Ubuntu releases, I noticed it under 10.04 Lucid Lynx alpha release, the most current for x86.

I am used to scan what I need to fax and save it in PDF format, then print it using evince to a PostScript file. This latter file is the one I supply to efax-gtk for sending, and it used to be just fine.

Now, following the same steps, I get this error from efax:

efax-0.9a: 09:01:49 Error: can't read multi-strip TIFF files
efax-0.9a: 09:01:49 Error: missing offset to TIFF data
efax-0.9a: 09:01:49 finished - unrecoverable error

The problem still persists in Lucid final release (efax version 1:0.9a-19)

I've compiled efax-gtk 3.2.1 from source and the issue disappeared...I'll take a look upstream to see if there is a way to fix the issue also in version 3.0.17...

Thanks for the tip about compiling from source, now I installed efax-gtk 3.2.1 and it works fine.
Can't this version be included in Ubuntu as the "default" one?

I tried compiling from source. Running configure ends with an error:

configure: error: Library requirements (glib-2.0 >= 2.10.0) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.
No glib to find in synaptic.

New version of efax-gtk now replaces efax (now part of efax-gtk).
Original efax has legal issues and probably will be renamed.

As for me, efax should be considered as superseded by efax-gtk.
I've packaged new version in https://launchpad.net/~eugenesan/+archive/ppa

Hope maintainers will adopt it.

@ JoLa:

have you installed the required development libraries? I also got the same errors (and I think another one too) which were solved by installing proper -dev packages.

Meanwhile this is no longer necessary because of the bnew version from Eugene San. Thanks

version 3.2.2 was uploaded to debian. I guess it will be also available in Ubuntu in a few days.
