Bug Description

The find function is not working.

With a fresh install of Mint 17, Dolphin cannot find a simple file. For example, I'm in my Documents folder and there is a file named "fu.txt". It doesn't matter whether I search for "fu" or "fu.txt", I get the same result, "No items found."

I previously experienced this problem with Kubuntu 14.04. Bug is reproducible on both x64 desktop AMD machine and 32-bit Intel-based laptop so it appears to be hardware and distro independent (unless it's Ubuntu upline).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1335725/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

The Find functionality appears to be working in 15.04 (vivid), with dolphin package version 4:14.12.3-0ubuntu3

From the command line: echo foobar > ~/Documents/fu.txt

In Dolphin:
* Navigate to Home folder
* Edit -> Find
* In the search box that appears above the file list, enter "fu" or "fu.txt"

fu.txt then appears in the listing.

"Find" function also doesn't work for me. I have Ubuntu 18.04 and Dolphin 17.12.3.

How can I install the older version 4:14.12.3-0ubuntu3 ?

Thanks.

Oddly enough, the find function works in Dolphin if, and only if, I go to Settings > Search > and UN-tick "Enable File Search".

This bug has been around for years. I'm surprised it doesn't have a higher priority considering that file search has been a part of every operating system I've known since the CP/M and DOS days.

So it can work, as long as it's turned off. It seems to me that this would be extremely easy to fix, simply by re-naming the checkbox "Disable File Search" (as if anyone would want to do that but ya never know) and just make the box's value default to false (box not checked) vs. true (box checked).
