Bug Description
Binary package hint: digikam
If you open Digikam for the first time with a digikam3.db file in the root of the photos directory, it attempts to import the data into the new digikam4.db file format.
Unfortunately, there is a bug in the import. The end effect is that NONE of the existing photos are displayed.
This is a known issue, with a patch released.
See the upstream bug (and patch) here:

I think this is a fairly serious bug. When a user starts this version of Digikam for the first time, it will appear that all of their photos have been lost!

This bug seems fairly serious - It affects anyone upgrading from a previous version of Digikam that uses the version 3 database. It makes it appear that all of your photos have been deleted - they are not visible, or useable, from within Digikam.
Could it be addressed before the release?
