Bug Description
Binary package hint: network-manager
I'm using ubuntu intrepid on a laptop using sky2 module for the ethernet connectins. Having NetworkManager started I'm unable to connect to a wired network, this the syslog messages connected:
Nov 5 09:24:45 nbvolpi dhclient:
Nov 5 09:24:46 nbvolpi dhclient: Listening on LPF/eth0/
Nov 5 09:24:46 nbvolpi dhclient: Sending on LPF/eth0/

are list
Nov 5 09:24:49 nbvolpi dhclient: DHCPREQUEST of 192.168.1.253 on eth0 to 255.25
5.255.255 port 67
Nov 5 09:24:49 nbvolpi dhclient: send_packet: Message too long
Nov 5 09:24:50 nbvolpi chipcardd[5563]: devicemanager.c: 3373: Changes in hardware list
Nov 5 09:24:52 nbvolpi dhclient: DHCPREQUEST of 192.168.1.253 on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67
Nov 5 09:24:52 nbvolpi dhclient: send_packet: Message too long
Nov 5 09:24:58 nbvolpi NetworkManager: <WARN> nm_signal_
Nov 5 09:24:58 nbvolpi NetworkManager: <info> (eth0): now unmanaged
I'm unable to use dhclient also after I have stopped the NetworkManager service.
The only way I have to connect to the network is to disable the NetworkManager, restart the system, and to connect to the network by hand.
A very annoying bug.

Tyler, this bug is unrelated. try to clean your configurations from /etc/network/
| Alexander Sack (asac) wrote : | #3 |
does this happen in all network enviironments? maybe its a problem with your dhcp server? Did you do any special dhcp configurations in /etc/ at some point ?

my /etc/network/
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
iface ppp0 inet ppp
provider ppp0
auto ppp0

lugburzm the other comment was directed to Tyler. in your config the ppp stuff might hurt.
| Alexander Sack (asac) wrote : | #6 |
(hurt in general ... not related to this bug)
| Tyler B (mtylerb) wrote : | #7 |
Ack, sorry, I really didn't mean to hijack this, I thought maybe it was related since they had similar symptoms. Sorry again, I will create a new bug under dhcp.

I have tested NetworkManager on a wireless network and it works very good.

There is a possibility that this bug will be solved?

i cannot reproduce it ... is it really the driver? maybe its chipcardd?
