Many desktopcouch-service processes running

I noticed the problem when I viewed the output of top. Here is a sample:

There are 288 copies of desktopcouch-service running at the moment. The result is that my computer feels quite sluggish.

This is not the fist time that I am encountering this bug. I do not know what I am doing to trigger this behaviour. Any help would be very appreciated.
