search applet has inconsidered list of searches

Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

There is a new applet in the top right of my display. There are a few problems with it:

* The list of searches is rather arbitrary. We should consider carefully which of these (if any) should be presented. (Note that there are sometimes commercial considerations too!)
* The box that turns up when you click on the icon is too small so it looks more or less like it's just an Amazon search.
* The icon is rather incomprehensible. After clicking on it I realise that it's sort of a mangifying glass with an arrow on it.

Thank for the bug. The applet is deskbar, reassigning. The box issue is fixing in the new version that will be uploaded after the tribe freeze, the list and icon still need work though

Isn't this very much related to all those other usability bugs in the new version of deskbar?
If need, I don't mind posting separate bug-reports about all usability issues (besides it launching a window). Lack of intelligent keyboard control comes to mind, as well do focus and resizing issues.

I'm glad to hear they are actively working to make it fix up the usability. The window thing wouldn't be a very big thing if it worked nicely. For reference, see: http://code.google.com/p/affinity-search/

Which does use a window, but does not get in the way.

@Ralf: from what I read on the deskbar-applet list and other places, the developers had to do a complete refactoring of the code for this release, which didn't leave much time to get the UI "right", but the next release will focus more or mostly on UI issues.

Yes, they've actually made it usuable just in time.
However, all of your comments are still valid, except about the default size.
The list is still inconsidered, and most of these extensions return too many results to be usefull.
