This bug occurs when using the alternate and server installers.
I have two SATA drives connected to a Super Micro X6DVA-EG motherboard. They are configured in the BIOS RAID utility as a RAID1 mirror. When I assign a name to that mirror (e.g., "main"), the installer cannot activate the array, giving me the following error:
Could not stat device /dev/mapper/
ERROR!!!
However, if I leave the array name blank, the installer successfully stats the device "/dev/mapper/asr_".
I have attached the end of the syslog, which shows the errors mentioned above.
I have faced this issue myself with some raid controllers. It seems that those affected are the ones that, when you name them, have a fixed amount of characters. So if you name it main, it will be mapped as /dev/mapper/ asr_main\ \ \ \ ... You can see it trough the console with the tab key (just open an alternative tty).
Hence I do believe that the installer is forgetting those spaces when trying to stat.
The workaround from my experience is to name the array using all characters available.
