Please run the following command in a terminal window to check whether the CUPS daemon (scheduler) is running:

lpstat -r

If it is not running, try to start it manually:

sudo /usr/sbin/cupsd

Post the screen output here and also attach the file /var/log/cups/error_log.

Your cupsd seems to be normally running. The error during update seems to be an Upstart problem.

pitti, can you look into this? Thanks.

Can you reproduce this with

  sudo apt-get install --reinstall cups

? If that does it, what does

  sudo stop cups
  sudo start cups

show? (Please copy the whole output in both cases).

If the latter still reproduces it, please do

  cd /tmp
  wget http://people.canonical.com/~pitti/tmp/cups.upstart.debug
  sudo cp cups.upstart.debug /etc/init/cups.conf
  sudo stop cups
  sudo start cups

and copy the whole output.

Thanks!

Thank you guys for your answers.

I did the reinstall and nothing wrong happened. I also rebooted because last time the error appeared after logging in. Things seem to work; I don't really know what that means.

pura vida.
