confusing description in ln manpage: -f "destination"

The manpage for ln uses "destination" in a very strange name.
As I understand it, and as described in the SYNOPSIS, a link is created in order to point to a target:

LINK_NAME --> TARGET

The -f option forces the deletion of the file "LINK_NAME" in the case it already exists.

However, the man page says:
       -f, --force
              remove existing destination files

I am not a native speaker of English, but I think that "target" means more or less "destination", and the use of "destination" is quite confusing here, because actually -f will lead the deletion of the file with the same name as LINK_NAME.
