Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

Distribution: Hardy Alpha 5 updated to Hardy Beta
System: Thinkpad T42
Graphics: Mobility Radeon 9600 M10

If I enable compiz over System->Preferences->Appearance->Desktop Effects: "Normal Effects" it automatically wants to install the FGLRX driver although compiz is running fine with the free xorg-ati driver on my video card. I don't want to switch to the non-free (unstable) fglrx driver. I know the "ati" driver has a slower 3d performance, but switching to fglrx should be optional.

Hardy Alpha 5 didn't force me to change the driver. And it should use AIGLX, like it did in Gutsy.

simon@simonlap:~$ compiz --replace
Checking for Xgl: not present.
Found laptop using ati driver.
aborting and using fallback: /usr/bin/metacity

On "ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV250 [Mobility FireGL 9000] (rev 02)" with Dell-Laptop compiz does not work although it worked fine until Alpha 5; after Alpha 6-Updates it cannot be activated, neither with ATI-Driver nor with the Radeon-Driver.
