Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

Fresh install of Hardy Alpha 5 landed me in a desktop with no gnome-panel; I had thought that gnome-panel was the culprit until doing an update and full-upgrade from the console tty1, rebooting, and apport reporting to me that compiz.real had previously crashed. Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to restart X prior to the full-upgrade did not fix the problem. Alt-F2 was also unresponsive; the tty consoles were all that I had available to me, although Ctrl-Alt-Del did produce the familiar GUI dialog box with the options to lock the screen, reboot, log out, shut down, etc.

Installed on a Dell Optiplex GX380
