Bug Description

Many large universities are connected by a high-speed network known as "internet2". Downloads from an internet2 site are rarely slower than 1MB/s, while the "regular internet/" is generally around 200kb/s. Also, most universities have different limits for use of Internet2 bandwidth usage vs "regular" internet. For example, I am allocated 2 GB/day on the regular internet while there is no limit to my internet2 bandwidth usage.

It would greatly enhance the network install experience for i2 users if there was a setting to choose a mirror that was on i2 rather than just by country. As far as I know, none of the contry mirrors that are offered are on the i2 network, meaning that one has to manually dig for a fast mirror.

Is there a compiled list of the i2 mirrors available somewhere, complete or not complete? If not, can you name a few?

Ben, I don't think there is anything anybody can do unless somebody provides a list of those mirrors.

The way most i2 connections are setup is that if you're on i2 and the destination is on i2, then the router will simply use i2, so to find a list of i2 Ubuntu mirrors one would simply compare the i2 member list to the Ubuntu mirror list.

Ubuntu Mirrors:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archivemirrors

Internet2 Members:
http://members.internet2.edu/university/universities.cfm

Small list of working i2 mirrors I tried:
Argonne National Laboratory
Duke University
Washington State University
Columbia University

A alternative method would be to look at the Gbps in the Ubuntu mirror list. If it's around 100 there's a good chance it has a i2 connection. Hope that helps!
