See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=278447 for a workaround.

Basically, calibre tries to load an icon which silently fails somewhere in the stack, because of its size.
Replacing it with a smaller PNG allows calibre to start normally.

The XRandR and XKEYBOARD extension error messages are red herrings (they still appear with the workaround applied).
