Bug Description

Binary package hint: br2684ctl

This package should be shipped in the install CD.
If not shipped, someone who has a USB ADSL modem like Speedtouch 330 has no way to start an internet connection besides downloading the package from another computer.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Thanks in advance.

Like I said above, yes, it still a problem because the package is still not shipped in the install CD. The package is needed to use PPPoE connections with some USB modems.

I don't need this anymore, for over 1 year. And I used it for obscure low quality ADSL USB modem, if that's the only use of this package, then I think in another 2 years of inactivity on this bug you can simply close it, because nobody will need it.

So for those *still* affected by this bug or knowing about recent usage of this package worth of having it at install CD, maybe you should tell again, because I'm making this to look obsolete. (I don't expect to need this package in the future again)

I find it weird to see open bug with no activity over 2 years, especially one such "easy" to fix (if there's spare space on CD and the package builds well).

it's like 600Kb and it should be on the cd. I have the package on my laptop, and everytime I reinstall ubuntu on my desktop, I need to install it in order to gain access to the internet. why is it not on the cd at the first place anyway?! it's a very small package.
