Bug Description

Binary package hint: banshee

A brief detail of my installation: I use Ubuntu in pt-BR, and the xdg-user-dirs-gtk-update changes many folders to its translated names, so "Desktop" becomes "Área de Trabalho", "Music" becomes "Música", etc.

But, althought its technically and grammatically correct, the ' in the letters (as in "ú") makes it quite impossible to bash-completion to work properly when I access the machines remotely from a Windows SSH client (such as Putty or SecureCRT), which forces me to set symbolic-links to the original name from their translated versions (so, I have a "Videos" that is a symlink to "Vídeos") and so on...

I believe, according to the log, that it could be interfering with banshee's ability to scan my media libraries, which is silly, cause the symlinks are supposed to be native understood by any application.

By the way, it seems to work just fine in another system I have running Natty (instead of Maverick) with a similar folder/symlinks setting

Although the symbolic link are probably causing a problem, it is probably not the cause of the crash. The log show a native stacktrace with the following bit in it :
/lib/libnss_wins.so.2(_nss_wins_gethostbyname2_r

This makes me think it might be the same issue as this bug :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/529714

Please try the work-around indicated in the bug : remove wins from the hosts line of your /etc/nsswitch.conf

The symlink problem might be this other bug :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/banshee/+bug/668481

I actually tracked down the stack trace from another bug, and it looks like
there's some weird issue with DEBUGLEVEL (defined to *debug_level), where
debug_level is probably not defined to an appropriate value somewhere. But
samba's source code is all over the place and I can't tell which debug_level is
which any more.
